Xeriscape Workshop - April 23rd Would you like to spend less time mowing, save water, and enjoy a beautiful, easy-care, green landscape? Then Xeriscaping is for you!
Xeriscaping is all about using hardy, dry-climate plants to achieve a beautiful, low-maintenance, sustainable landscape. Xeric plants have many benefits. They need little or no water other than seasonal rainfall, they don't require fertilizers or special soil amendments, and they thrive in our climate without special care.
There are many misconceptions about Xeriscaping. Some people confuse "Xeri" with "Zero", and think Xeriscaping means barren yards full of gravel and cactus. But nothing could be further from the truth! The selection of attractive Xeric plants that do well in our climate is truly amazing. Visit the new Xeriscape pages on the Town of Superior website to see pictures of some of the beautiful Xeric gardens that homeowners have created in Superior and other locations along the Front Range.
You don't have to give up your lawn to go Xeric. There are attractive Xeric grasses to choose from that will save water and fertilizer, and require less frequent mowing. The new Xeriscape pages also include tips on how to minimize water use with your existing lawn. Once you see the stunning results you can achieve through Xeriscaping, you may be inspired to replace part of your current water-hogging lawn with more sustainable plants and flowers.
It is easy to start enjoying the benefits of Xeriscaping. Pick a small area to begin with, learn what you like, and grow from here. There are many excellent books and other resources that can help you plan your new Xeric garden and select plants that will thrive in our local climate. Visit the Xeriscape pages for suggested plant lists, local nurseries that carry Xeric plants, and other resources. Want to learn more?
